Update 9th October 2020
Dear Parents & Carers,
I hope you are all keeping well. It has been another busy week here in school this week. I hope you are finding the updates letter useful when you don’t have as much opportunity to talk to teachers in the morning and afternoon. If you have any suggestions or improvements, please let me know.
Mental Health Day
It was lovely to see a sea of yellow coming into school this morning. Looking after our mental as well as physical health is really important. During the day today, the children have been taking part in a number of activities which aim to support them in understanding their own mental wellbeing. Thank you to Miss Vickers who has organised this for school and your support in promoting this highly important aspect of life. The donations are currently being counted as I write so we will let you know later on how much money we have raised.
PE Kits
As you are aware due to Coronavirus, the children are allowed to come to school on their PE days in their kit. This is working well and thank you for your support in this. However, we have noticed an increase in children coming not in school PE kit. Could I ask that the children come in their school PE kit? Thank you.
Bug Club / My Maths Reminder
Just a little reminder about our new reading and maths online learning platforms. If you are still having problems accessing either platform, please make your child’s teacher aware so we can ensure this is solved.
Healthy Eating
As you know, we are trying to improve our snacks at break to try and make them healthier. Could I ask that the snack you send to school for mid-morning break is healthy? Thank you.
Music Mark School
We received notification this week that we have retained our Music Mark Award for another year. This represents our commitment to music provision within school and ensuring the children receive high quality Music lessons as part of their curriculum in school. Well done to the whole school team for this achievement.
Extreme Reading
As you remember we ran a competition to promote reading called Extreme Reading. All the staff got involved and we had a few entries from across school. Reading is a fundamental life skill which we are working hard on in school through our Steps to Read work and the competition was another way of us promoting reading. We will be displaying the winning entries in school alongside the teacher entries. I will announce the winning entries next week. Although the deadline was 30th September, if you would like your child to enter, please ensure the entry is with the office by Wednesday 14th October. Thank you.
Parental Survey
Last week, I told you that a parental survey has been placed on our school website asking for your opinions on online learning. It would really help us as a school to plan as effectively as we can for any potential future lockdown if we have as many responses as possible. The questionnaire can be found on the main page of our school website under ‘latest news’. Click on the link ‘ICT Questionnaire – Access to online Learning’. Thank you.
Parents Evening
Under normal circumstances, we would have an autumn term parents evening. However, under our current circumstances, we are unable to hold the event as normally planned. We are just finalising our plans for the alternative and I will let you know further details next week.
I hope you all have a lovely, restful weekend.
With very best wishes,
Mr Perkins
