Friday Update 23.10.20

Dear Parents & Carers,

It’s hard to believe how fast the last 8 weeks of term have gone.  The beginning of a new academic year is always a very busy time in school, but ensuring we try and make the school environment as normal as possible for the children after such a long time away has given us all an extra challenge.  I hope you are still finding the new routines and procedures reassuring in the current pandemic that we are keeping your child/ren safe whilst at school.

As you’ll be aware, we had our first closed bubble yesterday after nearly 8 weeks in school.  Any news of closing bubbles can be frightening and serves as a reminder to us all about making sure we follow the rules regarding social distancing, washing our hands often and wearing a mask.  It has been amazing to see how as a school community we have supported each other, looked out for each other and continue to do so.  I would ask that we continue to follow the rules as we move into the next half term and until any restrictions are lifted.

Reception Sponsorship

Reception have been very busy pumpkin making this week to raise some money for a Fire Pit which will be used during the children’s Forest School sessions.  The Forest School sessions provide the children with a great opportunity to learn new skills and knowledge outdoors and Miss Haunch is an expert in leading these sessions.  Through the sale of the pumpkins, they raised a very impressive £103.90.  Part of this money has been used to purchase a fire pit.  Thank you to everyone for their support.

Parents Evening

I am sorry the letter went out a little later than planned, but you should have received a letter about how parents evening will happen next half term.  If you did not receive this, please ring into the office and we will ensure one in placed in your child’s book bag.

School Photographs

The school photographer is in school on Tuesday 3^rd November.  If you have not returned your letter to school, please could you ensure you send it with your child on Tuesday 3^rd November?  Thank you.

Wear It Pink

It has been a sea of pink and Halloween around school today.  It has been lovely to see the children in their outfits (socially distanced!) and the bingo this afternoon was a tremendous success!  All classes took part in a socially distanced bingo where they had the opportunity to win a Halloween Gift Bag.  There was also a class Treasure Hunt with special prizes if they could solve the hunt and find the Golden Ticket. Mrs Farrell and the team have put a tremendous amount of effort in to organise this for the children so my thanks go to them.

Once the final total of money has been counted, I will let you know how much we have raised as a school for this very worthwhile cause.  As with all the sponsorship events this term, I thank you for your continued support.

Extreme Reading Winners

As you know, we ran an Extreme Reading competition over the summer to see who could read in the most extreme place.  Looking through the entries, some people chose some very extreme places to read their chosen book.  Reading is something we are working on throughout the academic year through our Bug Club online platform and Steps to Read scheme in school.  Thank you to everyone who sent in an entry.

The winner for Key Stage 1 is Thomas Brown and the winner for Key Stage 2 is Grace Brown – what a winning house!  There were a number of staff entries as well and it was really difficult to choose a staff winner.  However, the staff winner was Mr Allinson!

We will displaying the winning entries and staff entries in school.  Thank you for your support in supporting this reading opportunity.

Half term

School closes today for half term.  School reopens to children on Tuesday 3^rd November.  I wish everyone a safe half term and I would ask that you ensure you follow the Tier 3 restrictions the Merseyside region is currently in.
